A Glimpse at her Frosty Eyes
By Louie Delk

A women, looking through the icy branches of a tree, brittle leaves in her icy blonde hair, her lips, blue, nearly bitten by the frost, and her steely blue eyes, gazing blankly at whatever was in the distance. That was the last picture ever taken of Ms Sarah Ross, and that picture was the first thing I saw when opening the manila folder that read Classified on the front, in bolded red letters.

I turned the picture to the other side of the folder and looked at another piece of paper, titled ‘Biological Information.’ And it read: ‘Very little is known about Ms Ross. She was kept quiet by her parents, tutored at home through high school, and received a college education from a private academy in upstate New York. Because of her disappearance shortly after her graduation of her 6 year education, it can be guessed that she was in her early 20’s, possibly younger however, judging by her grades and implied intelligence.’ The rest of the page offered charts displaying her grades, which were never less than 100%, and her estimated IQ, an outstanding 170. But seeing there was no more information that interested me, I flipped the page over and began to read the back.

The back of the page read in bold print, “Known Locations.” Seeing as I as in Missouri, just getting some volunteer hours checking information for a local police officer, I had expected to see that Sarah was a local, from mid Missouri. Well, I was only partly right on that answer. Sarah was born in Fulton, and disappeared in Fulton, but had spent her college years in upstate New York, over 1,000 miles away. “It looks like OfficerJones will have quite a trip if he is looking for interrogations.” I mumbled to myself, before tossing the sheet of paper aside.

The next paper was in a sealed manila envelope of its own, and read in bolded red letters, stamped in several different places, CLASSIFIED, or in one case on the back of the envelope, FOR YOUR EYES ONLY. That told me that some pretty serious information was in the envelope. Seeing the warning, I checked the room, and saw that both the doors were shut and had no windows, and there were no windows in the rest of the room. I then went to each of the doors and locked them, before walking to the single security camera, and removing the power cable. Seeing that I was alone, and that no one could be seeing what I was about to read, I sat back down, and opened the envelope, and dumped out its contents.

I was surprised to see the least, that such an importantly marked envelope contained nothing but an eyewitness report. “This is a disappointment.” I mumbled to myself, looking at the report. It was simple, and had two pictures as the heading. One was the same of the girl, her looking through the frosted branches, and the other was a photo of Stan Lee. That caused me to raise an eyebrow. “The king of cameos was in Missouri, and no one told me?” I exclaimed, looking at his familiar hair doo and smile. “But, enough of that, let’s get reading!”

And so I did, and this is what I uncovered. “It was all like a dream to me,” comic book artist, Stan Lee said, on the disappearance of local girl Sarah Ross. “I just saw her, walking into the woods, but for some reason, I felt paralyzed, and was unable to move anything except my arms. And then, a cold wind seemed to just rush in, but it only affected her, and left her covered in snow and ice, and froze the tree she was leaning up against. So, I took out my digital camera, and napped a quick picture! But when I looked back at the tree, she was gone!” That story really did not affect me, personally, but it did cause me to think on what had happened.

“That is definitely a strange case.” I said to myself, while a slid the paper back into the envelope. I saw that the rest of my bulk was done, so I plugged the camera cord back into the wall, and unlocked the two doors.
Just something from English, with a Stan Lee cameo.
This story is much shorter, at only 724 words, and I am interested for you guys to see how you like it.
